Historic Hoover School & Theater This classic 1931 California-style jewel in the middle of San Jose’s historic Rose Garden District had deteriorated to the point where the school district was going to sell the abandoned structure. Turns out, the school was designed by W.H. Weeks, who designed schools all over California, including San Jose's landmark Medical-Dental Building and the Sainte Claire Hotel. Citizens banded together, money was appropriated and TBI began another of its well-known restoration projects. Careful restoration to preserve the original integrity of the structure was carried out, along with up to date disabled access, elevators and seismic upgrades. After completion, the project received a California Preservation Foundation award, as well as a Leroy F. Greene Award from the Coalition for Adequate School Housing. The school stands today as a designated historical landmark. |
