SJUSD engaged TBI Energy to reduce energy waste at one of its oldest campuses. Gunderson High School, built in 1976, uses approximately twice the energy/student of the average district school despite having a 600KW solar system on site.
TBI Energy is taking advantage of a favorable utility rebate environment to help finance the replacement of a number aging and inefficient mechanical systems while upgrading the campus infrastructure.
Phase 1: IMPLEMENTED
Add 2 flow meters (equipment & install) and re-program VFD’s to achieve design flow rate and program as well as lower flow rate for night-time setback.
Remove and replace 2 existing, primary pool boilers with 97% efficient condensing boilers
Project Cost after $55,000 rebate = $70,000
Annual Energy Savings = $52,000
Phase 2: IN FINAL DESIGN
Reconfigure Domestic hot water system and add solar assist
Optimize operation of HVAC hot water loop to reduce wasted energy
Begin replacement of main boilers with low NOx units
